Big goals are exciting.
They make you feel alive. They give you something to chase, something to work towards, something bigger than the ordinary routine of getting up, going to work, coming home and doing it all again tomorrow.
But there’s a problem with big goals.
Sometimes they’re so big that we have absolutely no idea where to start.
You want to run a marathon. Start a business. Write a book. Travel the world. Get seriously fit. Learn a new language.
Completely change your life.
So you make a huge plan, go all in for a few days, and then reality hits.
You get tired. You get busy. Motivation disappears.
And the goal gets pushed into the “I’ll do it someday” folder.
Here’s the secret: big goals are achieved through ridiculously small actions.
You don’t need to change your entire life tomorrow. You just need to make one small move today.
Want to write a book….
Don’t worry about writing 50,000 words. Write 200 words today.
Want to get fit…
Don’t worry about becoming an athlete. Go for a 20-minute walk.
Want to run a marathon….
Start with one kilometre.
Want to learn a language
Learn five words.
Want to save $10,000….
Start by saving $10.
Small doesn’t mean insignificant.
Small means sustainable.
Every major achievement is built from hundreds, sometimes thousands, of tiny decisions that nobody sees.
The problem is that we often underestimate what small actions can become when we repeat them consistently.
One push-up doesn’t make you stronger.
One workout does not transform your body.
One page doesn’t make you a writer.
One day doesn’t change your life.
But one push-up repeated consistently becomes a stronger body.
One page a day becomes a book.
One small action repeated for 365 days can create a completely different version of you.
Stop obsessing over the finish line.
Focus on the next step.
You don’t have to climb the entire mountain today. You just need to take the next step.
And then another.
And another.
Eventually, you’ll look back and realise you’ve travelled much further than you thought possible.
So dream ridiculously big.
Set goals that scare you a little.
Then break them down until the first step feels almost too easy.
Because you don’t need to conquer the world today.
You just need to start.
Big goals….. Small steps. …..Every damn day.
