Do a Yearly Life Audit: Stop, Look Around, Then Decide What’s Next
Most people review their year by asking one question: “What did I actually achieve… ?
How about asking something more important “Do I actually like the life I’m living…?
That’s where a yearly life audit comes in.
Think of it as an annual reality check. Not a performance review. Not a guilt trip.
Not another opportunity to beat yourself up over everything you didn’t accomplish.
It’s a chance to stop the noise, step back, and look honestly at where your life is heading.
Because you can be incredibly successful at living the wrong life.
Look at the big picture
Take a brutally honest look at the major areas of your life:
Health: Am I taking care of my body, or just hoping it holds together?
Relationships: Who makes my life better? Who drains me? Am I investing enough time in the people who matter?
Career: Am I excited about where I’m heading, or simply comfortable?
Money: Am I controlling my money, or is it controlling me?
Adventure: When was the last time I did something that made a great story?
Personal growth: Am I learning, improving and challenging myself?
Time: Where is my time actually going?
That last one is a big one – Your calendar doesn’t lie.
You might say your family matters most, but if your calendar is packed with work, scrolling and distractions, your priorities aren’t your words. They’re your actions.
Keep what works and get rid of what doesn’t.
Once you’ve looked honestly at your life, divide things into three categories:
KEEP: What is working. What gives you energy, purpose and happiness…
CHANGE: What needs more attention…
STOP: What are you doing simply because you’ve always done it…..
You don’t need to reinvent your entire life every January. Sometimes you just need to remove the shit that’s getting in the way.
Ask yourself the uncomfortable questions
If nothing changed over the next five years, would I be happy……
What am I putting off…
What am I tolerating….
What have I always wanted to do but keep finding excuses for….
What would I regret not doing….
And perhaps the biggest question:
Am I building a life I actually want, or one I’ve simply fallen into……?
Your life isn’t a dress rehearsal. So once a year, hit pause.
Look at the scoreboard.
Be honest about what’s working and what’s not.
Then make some decisions.
Because the goal isn’t to have a perfect life.
