What is a power list ?

The Power List is a concept often used in personal-development and productivity circles, referring to a list of actions, tasks, or behaviors that can help individuals achieve success or personal growth.

I first heard of a Power list a few years ago reading Andy Frisella’s book 75 Hard and by doing the 75 Hard program for the first time.

The idea is to prioritize the most impactful, high-leverage activities that will lead to the biggest results, whether that’s in business, personal goals, or general life improvement.

In some contexts, the Power List refers to a daily or weekly list of tasks or habits that someone identifies as crucial for achieving their long-term goals. It’s like a personal “success blueprint” that focuses on the most important activities, rather than getting bogged down in small, less impactful tasks.

The Powers of Having a Power List
  1. Increased Focus:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        By identifying the most important tasks, you can direct your energy and attention toward what truly matters. This helps you avoid distractions and make meaningful progress.

  2. Clarity:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          A Power List helps you clarify your priorities, giving you a clear road map of what you need to do and why it matters. This clarity can reduce decision fatigue and make it easier to take action.

  3. Improved Productivity:                                                                                                                                                                                                                              When you’re focused on high-leverage activities, you’re more likely to accomplish things that will significantly move the needle toward your goals. This leads to more effective use of your time.

  4. Sense of Accomplishment:                                                                                                                                                                                                            Completing items from your Power List creates a strong sense of achievement. As you tick off important tasks, it builds momentum and boosts your confidence.

  5. Increased Accountability:                                                                                                                                                                                                                          A Power List, especially if shared with others or made public, helps keep you accountable. Knowing that you’re working on something important can help you to persevere even when you’re lacking motivation.
